Not all mobile games suck - But most do
A fair analytical view of the horrible deceptive monstrosity that is the App Store. (Rants from an angry person)
Video Games are pretty cool. I like them (Thank you for listening to my TED talk). And I like the fact that they’re on phones. You can take them anywhere, and whenever you’re bored, you can take out your phone and do something with your friends, or just play something on your own. But something has gone too far. WAY too far. This might possibly be the end of humanity as we know it. That’s right. I’m talking about advertisements.
I’d like to throw out some games that are actually quite enjoyable, and don’t cause the world to end. Games like BTD6, and games with a interesting story behind them such as Plague Inc and Clash of Clans. Some games make money from the download or from the ownership, but there’s another way to make money that has recently become more popular than these. These methods are known as Plagiarism and Product Placement. A lot of games nowadays let you play the game for a couple seconds, you know get a feel for it, and then they bombard you with about 2 minutes worth of ads. These are those games that you think are fun, but you get tired of after a couple minutes. The Devs (Developers) know this and because of that they just make the game a huge advertisement, making a quick profit from advertisements every time someone opens the game. By the time you’ve deleted it, the Devs have already gotten what they want. They don’t expect you to come back - and they don’t need you to either. This on its own is atrocious, but it’s only just getting started. You see, now these Developers have hit a new low. They blatantly rip off other creative games and bombard them with ads. I’ll show a couple here.
#1: Clash of Zombies
What are they even trying here? Ripping off Clash of Clans AND Marvel at the same time? Talk about multi-tasking. Do I even need to say anything about this?
“Copyright infringement has never been so obvious” - Dude on the internet
It’s not even a question. This is just sad. How do you make a game with so little creativity that you can’t even think of a way to make this copy remotely different from the one your copying it from? Another game is just like this, called “Star Wars Commander”. It’s a kind of good game, (Mostly because it’s just disguised Clash of Clans) But at least they hid the similarities by changing the colors and textures. THESE GUYS DIDN’T HAVE THE CREATIVITY TO DO EVEN THAT! They went the ENTIRE OPPOSITE DIRECTION by not only copying Clash of Clans but extending their Plagiarism to Marvel as well.
Some of you might think these are fans. Making a game just like the ones they love with the characters they love. But if you’re a fan, you’d credit the other people. You’d give them some recognition. But MOST OF ALL, you wouldn’t MAKE MONEY OFF OF THEIR CREATIVITY.
That’s all there is to say about this. I got a bit carried away by seeing once again how blatantly fake this game is. This is exactly what I’m talking about.
#2: Infection Bio War
What? Are you trying to hide this? Sometimes I can’t tell if this is a joke or not. But what I do know is that there’s no credit and a whole lot of profit. Try to find a difference between the first and second pictures about actual gameplay or UI. Did you find any? Of course not. There’s so much I can say about this. The game used the same words. “Disease”, “Infected”, “DNA”, “Dead”, “Cure”, “World”. At least come up with something like else. If you want to say that there’s not really a better word, you might be right. You know why? BECAUSE IT’S ALREADY TAKEN FROM A BETTER GAME. Sometimes I look back at the App Store and I think to myself, Gee, I wonder what they’ll come up with this time! But every time I think that maybe, just maybe, they’ll make something with a minor difference than the game that they copied it from. But once again, you’ve surprised me! You haven’t done a SINGLE THING that distances this game in any way from Plague Inc. Except for one thing. Plague Inc doesn’t have ads. That’s the only difference from this game and Plague Inc. Plague Inc isn’t filled with advertisements. Way to make a new, different game.
#3: Blooket.
Congratulations Blooket! You’ve done what I’ve recommended! Make a copy of a game that actually looks remotely different! But alas, there’s only so much you can do to hide it when you copy a game that already exists. You see, Blooket isn’t a mobile game, it’s one of those things that piggybacked off Kahoot’s success. This one has game modes, each with their own copyrighted origin from another person. But all of those are too vague and too widespread across everywhere that it’s more of a genre than a specific game, so lucky you Blooket! So far you’re safe! But oh no, Blooket, you’ve wandered into dangerous territory! When you start copying actually unique and creative games, then people will actually find out that you’re devoid of creativity! And here I am!
Once again, this game has no credit to the original creators of this, Reigns (Right), But that’s just normal Copyright Infringement behavior. I first saw this in a math class and I immediately noticed this, so I made the picture right then and there (No one needs to know). Soon I played this game for myself and realized that pretty much every creative interaction in the game is taken from Reigns. Those that aren’t are (You guessed it) Product Placement! Way to fit the norms of a dirty Plagiarist!
There’s so many more games out there, a couple of which I’d put in but this is long enough for my first review, and I’m tired. But this is an ongoing occurrence. People keep on making games, and there’s always people to copy them, and there most likely always will be. But that’s why there’s people like me to notice them and complain about them to a non-existent audience! And I’ll do it as many times as I see fit! If you have any recommendations for something I can do next, feel free to comment. Until then, remember to stay cool, read my things, read my friend’s things, and remember that all governments are puppets of the real rulers who are half lizard half human and use the false allegiance of the people to form a dystopian corporatocracy. . . .
And most of all, try to be at least remotely creative!
